Really excited to find this substack and learn about the podcast! Recently picked up Jesus through Medieval Eyes and finished it the same day. Couldn’t put it down. It has really helped to redeem certain aspects of our Christian tradition that, to me, have felt corrupted by so many expressions of modern American Christianity. This post was very encouraging as well. Thank you, Grace!
I appreciate your footnote. I also don't want to bring partisan politics into my Substack writing, but I did write two posts about it (on Election Day and the day after). I tried to cover the election and its aftermath in constructive ways. I hope I succeeded.
I hadn't seen that painting before, it's very striking in the expression Jesus has for us at His judgement. Somehow, He seems both sad and disappointed with our sinfulness as a people. Judgement is very Scriptural, yet seldom discussed. I had to jot down the two books you mentioned, they look wonderful.
Isn't it so striking? I have found it such a helpful meditative point for judgment. And you're so right, we rarely talk about this topic that appears so frequently in the gospels and elsewhere!

Thank you for your kind words about the book. I agree—studying the past has done something really similar for me. Glad you’re here!

I’m just here to say it was an absolute pleasure and honor to speak with Grace on the podcast. I remain a stan of Old Books with Grace!
Thanks, Amy! ♥️
