I love this so much! Today I noticed a MacDonald reference in Emily Climbs by L. M. Montgomery: "I would like to get into a ship and sail straight out there—out—out—where would I land?...Some beautiful unknown shore where 'the rain never falls, and the wind never blows.' Perhaps the country back of the North Wind where Diamond went. One could sail to it over that silver sea on a night like this." Never noticed that connection before!
Oh wow! I’ve never noticed that either. I reread the Emily series last year… so delightful but Dean is one of my least favorite characters in all literature 😂 sounds like maybe you need to read a MacDonald next!
Oh my gosh love that! There's still a few there... I always go to the one in Phoenix when I'm in town. But the one I loved so much right by the University was demolished :(

Yes! Dean is the worst 🤢 and this is in a conversation with him, too 🙃 I haven't heard of the Thomas Wingfold books but my library has it!
Love the Collect for Purity!
It is truly beautiful
We visited Bookman's in Tucson this past summer, and I have a much loved mug from there!

oh, bummer!"
Out of curiosity, do you have a preferred translation of Walter Hilton?
I love Evelyn Underhill’s midcentury translation of Walter Hilton! And the Classics of Western Spirituality edition is good!
Do you know if Underhill’s translation is still in print? I can’t seem to find a copy.
Alas, I don’t think so. I bought a used copy.
